Gartner Positions ShoreTel In The “Leaders” Quadrant Of The Magic Quadrant For Unified Communications For Midsize Enterprises, North America

 

ShoreTel®, the leading provider of brilliantly simple phone systems and unified communications (UC) solutions, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner®, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications for Midsize Enterprises, North America.”[i]

This is the first Magic Quadrant focused on UC for the midsize enterprise in North America, with Gartner evaluating 10 UC solution providers targeted to midsize businesses, defined as companies with between 100-999 employees. “Completeness of vision” evaluation criteria included market understanding, marketing strategy, sales strategy, and vertical industry strategy. “Ability to execute” evaluation criteria included product/service, sales execution and pricing, and customer experience.

“We believe our leadership position in the midsize enterprise UC Magic Quadrant is confirmation of the breadth and strength of our solution portfolio for on-premises customers in North America as well as our strong ecosystem of channel partners,” said Mark Roberts, CMO of ShoreTel. “We have a reputation for quality, reliability and solutions that just work, and we’ve always been laser-focused on the midsize enterprise market. Gartner defines a Unified Communications solution as one that comprises six areas: telephony; conferencing; messaging; presence and IM; clients; and communications-enabled applications.

Millennials Look To Desk Phones In The Office
 

 

Just when you think you’ve figured out the Millennial generation, they go ahead and surprise you. While they turn to apps to listen to music, they also can be seen at vintage record stores, driving the new craze in vinyl. In fact, vinyl album sales in 2014 hit a record high for a second year in a row, up 52 percent.

Just like the vinyl trend, there is evidence that Millennials are fans of the desk phone. After Generation X and Boomer employees made the leap to smartphones and mobile devices, Millennials are pulling us back to company-issued standard desk phones.

Is this merely nostalgia, as many say about the vinyl trend? Perhaps somewhat, but Nemertes Research analyst Irwin Lazar suggests another reason. During a panel discussion at Interop Las Vegas this year, he said the Millennials he works with hate the idea of multiple smartphone apps that all deliver basically the same feature. They want one application to get the job done. And rather than letting employees fight the iPhone vs. Android, WhatsApp? vs. Skype battles, Millennials prefer a common platform in the desk phone.

That doesn’t mean they won’t stop using smart devices, including emerging new wearable technologies and the latest applications. But they clearly want to ground that with a desk phone that perhaps conveys some permanence and a solid connection to fellow co-workers.

Millennials are a very smart group and they know which communications device can simply bring everyone together. Perhaps the BYOD pendulum swung too far and now the Millennials are helping us find that common middle point.

 
 
ShoreTel Introduces Mobility App for Apple Watch

Apple Watch owners can stay connected with ShoreTel Mobility on the go, without taking their iPhone from their pocket. The smartly designed ShoreTel Mobility home screen on the watch allows users to access commonly used UC functions, such as viewing any unread instant messages, accessing favorites, and joining a meeting. For instance, when weaving through a crowded airport, the app will deliver a notification on the user’s wrist for when a conference call is about to begin, and with one simple tap, the user is automatically dialed-in, authenticated and ready to participate on the call or video.

The Glance view reveals ShoreTel Availability State, missed call and IM indicators, as well as Notifications alerts, and allows the user to act on incoming calls and messages.

ShoreTel Mobility on the Apple Watch allows users to:

• Easily access their corporate favorite contacts with initiation of an enterprise call across WiFi, cellular or cellular data
• Re-dial a missed enterprise call
• View and respond to secure corporate instant messaging lightning-fast by selecting from a predefined set of responses or by speaking into the Apple Watch
• Answer or reject an incoming enterprise call
• View and update enterprise presence
• One tap join a ShoreTel collaboration session

ShoreTel Mobility users can download the latest update to receive the beta version of the app for the Apple Watch, available now from the Apple app store.
