Microsoft Launches Office 2016 Preview for Businesses

Microsoft is moving forward with its first peek in to Office 2016 for enterprises.  Available for IT pros and developers, Microsoft is allowing a preview of Office 2016, which is slated for release late this year.  Microsoft does want to be clear that the preview does not include all planned features expected to be incorporated in to Office 2016 and that customers should expect monthly updates that broaden available features.

IT pros and developers can sign up through the Microsoft Connect website and eventually Office 2016 Preview will be open to all Office 365 users, but for now Microsoft hasn't officially stated when.

A full summary of features users can expect in Office 2016 Preview can be found via a blog post from Microsoft, here are some of the features below:

Data Loss Protection for Word, Excel and PowerPoint: This allows IT administrators to secure Office documents through centralized sharing and authoring policies. DLP had only been available for Exchange, Outlook, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint previously.

Outlook technical improvements: Microsoft is making a bunch of improvements to its email software, including multi-factor authentication support, additional storage options, faster overall performance, and more reliable search.

New deployment features: IT pros can take advantage of new bandwidth management features, more flexibility for updates, and a way to manage device activations across multiple users.

Accessibility features: Microsoft is promising better keyboard accessibility for major Excel features such as PivotTables, and has addressed readability problems in Outlook. As rumored, Office 2016 will also include a dark color theme.

Information Rights Management for Visio diagrams: IRM allows users to lock down documents against editing or sharing, and now these features are being extended to Microsoft’s flowchart software.

Dell Offers Security Suite for Corporate Endpoints

In the wake of constant cyber attacks against many large organizations, Dell has released the Dell Data Protection/Endpoint Security Suite (DDP/ESS).  A single offering, this suite is designed to be used with commercial systems from Dell or other hardware makers that offers an array of authentication, encryption and threat protection capabilities.  This will provide companies with a complete security suite offering, over all corporate endpoints. This security suite makes Dell the only Tier 1 technology provider offering customers a single source for purchase and support of hardware as well as a fully integrated endpoint security solution.

"Data breaches are getting worse and are getting expensive," Brett Hansen, executive director of end-user computing software and mobility at Dell, told eWEEK in an interview in Boston, noting the prominent role endpoints play in many security incidents. "It's perhaps the most important situation that needs to be addressed when we talk about security." Dell states that 87% of businesses have encountered a security breach of some magnitude this past year.  With 70% of these breaches being the culprit of humans.

The security suite will offer a wide variety of services, some of the security points included are: fingerprints, smartcards and the ability to reset a Windows password via a smartphone, encryption (of such components as local drives and external media, as well offering agentless security for Android and iOS devices) based on Dell IP.

Public, Private and Hybrid Clouds
In the ever changing environment that is the cloud, businesses must understand what types of cloud services are out there and which type will fit their internal and external needs the best.

Now to understand what cloud your business needs, you need to understand the types: Public, Private and Hybrid.  A public cloud is simply what the title says, public.  The cloud is hosted by an external third party that provides optimal scalability to mainly repetitive tasks such as mass customer emails. This provides a much easier way to store messages, than through an internal data center, as data centers typically have many applications in tune at the same time, making optimization difficult for the for mentioned topic.

A private cloud is much more personal. It can be a cloud created specifically for just your company, including your employees and customers.  A private cloud is a much more controlled place versus the public cloud.  Private clouds are for businesses that have sensitive data that must be protected from public eyes.  With a private cloud, businesses can incorporate specific protocols unique to only their own private cloud, creating a much more predictable and manageable solution.

A hybrid cloud is for businesses looking to find a balance of security and availability for their data.  It combines public services with private clouds and the data center to create the perfect combination.  Hybrid clouds work for businesses that leverage SaaS (software as a service) between private and public clouds on a regular basis.  Also for companies that use a public development platform that sends data to a private cloud or data center-based application.

What ever your business needs, brightstack has your back, contact one of our representatives today to learn more about how the cloud can serve your business better.
