ShoreTel Dock Wins Gold Stevie in International
Business Awards
Earlier this month, ShoreTel was given the Gold Stevie Award in Parisat the International Business Awards for the ShoreTel Dock. This was awarded to ShoreTel Asia Pacific for the “Best New Technology Product of the Year” and ShoreTel was the winner in a field of entries from more than 60 nations and territories.

This award proves the strength of ShoreTel’s pioneering vision that ‘there just has to be an easier way’ for enterprise communication, with the introduction of the only enterprise-grade docking station on the market. As anyone who knows ShoreTel, knows the Dock extends the desktop in a meaningful and transparent way out to the mobile device and uniquely empowers workers to communicate anytime, anywhere.
ShoreTel has previously won three Golds in the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.
Understanding ShoreTel’s Failover Options
ShoreTel’s Unified Communication solution provides powerful and cost effective options to maximize the availability of dial tone for users. IP Phones (also known as VoIP phones) are controlled by modular voice switch appliances that are inherently super reliable. This reliability can be augmented by provisioning two methods of backup voice switches:

This solution is ideally suited for distributed systems comprised of a larger HQ location and any a number of branch locations. Dedicated spare IP phone resources can be provisioned at the HQ location to serve the entire system i.e. any voice switch failure at a branch location will result in the branch IP phones switching over and receiving service from the HQ voice switches. This is extremely cost effective and leverages the statistical likelihood that only one branch will have a local voice switch outage at a given time.

Intra-Site (aka: N+1)
IP failover within a site is a second option of course. This might be considered for the HQ location itself or for larger semi-autonomous branch locations. This option requires spare voice switch at the location itself. What distinguishes the ShoreTel solution again, is the efficiency with which the spare capacity can be provisioned.

Let’s take an example of 180 IP phones at such a location. A nominal implementation might be to deploy two voice switches capable of supporting 90 phones each. However by deploying 3 voice switches with spare capacity a more optimal backup scenario can be created: the three voice switches each nominally serve 60 phones (i.e. they each have spare capacity of 30 phones).

A failure in any of one of the three voice switches will result in the affected phones seamlessly moving over to the spare capacity on the other two voice switches. So the cost of providing backup services is 50% or less over the nominal cost of the required resources compared to 100% for more conventional redundant solutions from other vendors.

It is even possible to combine these two options and this allows ShoreTel to deliver an extremely robust UC platform.
Hybrid Cloud Solution Delivers Applications to ShoreTel Users

ShoreTel Connect enables ShoreTel on-premises customers to provide applications from the cloud for individual employees on an “as-needed” basis.

ShoreTel Connect is a hybrid cloud communication solution that leverages the best of on-site as well as cloud delivery platforms. ShoreTel’s hybrid cloud collaboration solution is for on-premises customers who want to maintain local control and lower the cost of their enterprise phone system, while also adding special service utilities on-demand on an “as-needed” basis. There is no capital expense or IT training needed; the service is enabled as part of the ShoreTel Director Administration dashboard. ShoreTel Connect enables on-premises customers to have greater access to on-demand services from the cloud while protecting their investment in their on-premises solutions. The solutions that are enabled with ShoreTel Connect are ShoreTel Sky Scribe and ShoreTel Sky Fax.

Ronald McDonald House of New York has been using ShoreTel Connect. “With ShoreTel Sky Scribe, our employees receive transcribed voice messages directly in their email. They can respond without having to dial in—they even read them during meetings without disrupting the conversation,” said Natalie Greaves, director of communications. “ShoreTel Sky Fax lets employees send and receive documents while on the go with just a click of a button. We’ve seen tremendous benefits from both features. I would highly recommend ShoreTel Connect to other prospects and customers.”
